LAÇIN AKYOL

  • Born on April 7, 2006 in Izmir, Laçin Akyol started her violin education at Mersin University State Conservatory in 2013 in Lily Tchumburidze's class. From 2014 until 2018, she attended the masterclasses of Dora Schwarzberg, Tuncay Yılmaz, Alexander Kagan, Lyutsia Ibragimmova, Mincho Minchev, Cihat Aşkın, Alexander Markov and Erkin Onay. In 2020, she was invited to audition for the famous Yehudi Menuhin School in London and was qualified to study there. In 2022, she was selected for the “Youth Classics” summer school organized by the Swiss International Music Academy (SIMA), where she took lessons with Prof. Ulf Wallin. In the summer of 2023, Laçin took lessons with Prof. Nora Chastain and Zohrab Tadevosyan at the same masterclass, and in 2024 she attended Prof. Philip Draganov's masterclasses at the Landesmusikakademie in Ochsenhausen, Germany. Laçin Akyol graduated from Mersin University State Conservatory in June 2024, completing her violin studies in Lily Tchumburidze's class. Subsequently, she started her Bachelor’s Degree at the Bern University of the Arts in Switzerland in the class of Prof. Philip A. Draganov.

  • Despite her young age, Laçin has won prizes at numerous international competitions. In 2015, she won the third prize at the “8. International Grumiaux Competition for Young Violinists” in Belgium, which was the first competition she participated in and her first time going abroad. The same year she won the first prize at the “Harmony International Competition and Festival” in Antalya. In 2017, she won the second prize at the “Grumiaux Competition”, the first prize and the best romantic composition performer awards at the “Harmony Competition and Festival” and the second prize at the “1. Marine Iashvili Competition for Stringed Instruments” in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2019 (first prize was not awarded). Laçin also got awards at numerous online competitions: second prize at the “1. Brussels International Music Competition” in 2020, first prize at the “8. Rome International Music Competition” in 2021, second prize at the “Medici International Music Competition” and first prize at the “6. Tokyo International Music Competition” in 2022.

  • On February 6th, 2025, Laçin passed away at the age of only 18 years, 12 days after being hit by a car in a tragic accident.

    It is the purpose of creating this website to honor and keep the memories alive of Laçin Akyol, an incredible violinist and wonderful young woman, who’s presence has not only given her closest family and friends joy and happiness, but who has also been an inspiration to all those who have been lucky enough to meet her.
